Before your possessions are packed and loaded, it is important that you understand which items cannot be shipped because they represent a hazard or are perishable. Listed below are some common non-allowable items that you will need to address prior to your pack and load dates.

Hazardous Materials

Any items that are flammable, corrosive or explosive cannot be transported on our moving trucks and vans. These include:

  • Sterno, matches, kerosene, gasoline, propane
  • Fireworks, ammunition
  • Charcoal, charcoal lighter
  • Lamp oils
  • Fire extinguisher
  • Aerosols
  • Motor Oil
  • Cleaning solvents, ammonia, liquid bleach
  • Nail polish, nail polish remover
  • Paints (latex and oil based), paint thinner
  • Household batteries, car batteries
  • Chemistry sets, darkroom chemicals, pool chemicals
  • Fertilizer, pesticides, poisons (such as weed killer)

Perishable Items

Perishable items are generally not allowed to be transported, but some shipments moving less than 150 miles and delivered within 24 hours of pickup can sometimes be done. Talk to your agent to see if they will agree to transport perishables that are properly packed and require no servicing in transit. Perishable items include:

  • Frozen or refrigerated foods, produce
  • Plants
  • Open or half-used foods
  • Foods without adequate preservation

Items of Personal Importance

Items in this category can cause potential problems should your shipment be delayed or lost. We suggest that irreplaceable and/or sentimental items be carried with you and not packed into your shipment. These can include:

  • Airline tickets
  • Keys to furniture, safe and home
  • Cell phones, laptops and chargers
  • Checkbooks and cash
  • School, medical and dental records
  • Moving documents or documents pertaining to your new home
  • Certificates of deposit, stocks, bonds, deeds, and other financial documents
  • Car keys and car titles
  • Professional files and address books
  • Insurance policies
  • Prescription medicine
  • Jewelry and valuables
  • Family photographs, wedding albums, personal videos
  • Remote controls for electronic equipment
