Who would have thought that moving and helping out your local community could go hand-in-hand? After growing up seeing his family’s moving company help thousands of people relocate, Adam Lowy noticed how often food and canned goods were going to be thrown out—and decided to do something about it.
In 2009, he founded Move for Hunger, a 501©3 non-profit organization. Now, when families or businesses are getting ready to move, they can set aside all unopened, non-perishable food items instead of tossing them. From there, a Move for Hunger crew will pack up all the food and deliver it to a local food pantry where it will be sorted and delivered to families in need. Less waste, less work for the people moving, and a great contribution to the community; Move for Hunger is a win-win!
Since its beginning, Move for Hunger has grown by teaming up with relocation companies across the country, effectively creating one of the nation’s largest year-round service programs.
